Earlier this month, four longtime Pike Place Fish Market employees, Jaison Scott, Samuel Samson, Ryan Reese, and Anders Miller, went from the docks to the desks when they purchased the world renowned Seattle business. The 1,000-square-foot market, along with the Space Needle, is one of Seattle’s premier sites, attracting thousands of visitors throughout summer months and serving as the perfect backdrop for selfies.
The sales price wasn’t disclosed, but the seller, John Yokoyama, who bought the business from its founder for $3,500 in 1965, said he worked with “the kids” to make this deal possible.
“He could have sold it to just about anyone, but he went out of his way to sell it to us,” Reese told the Seattle Times. “The city is changing so fast, it’s an honor to be part of a small, 1,000-square-foot legacy that makes this city special.”
The new owners plan on maintaining the success of the fish market by using their acquired skills, along with the tools Yokoyama has passed down to take the Pike Place Fish Market to the next level.
