There was much ado about the death of retail, but after the apocalyptic hype of it all, it’s become clear that retail was never dying, it was evolving. As we begin a new year, it’s interesting to take a look back at 2017 and see all the innovations in the sector, especially those at the hands of technology.

Here’s a look back at a few of the interesting changes in retail:

  • Walmart’s Home Delivery: Walmart partnered with smart-lock start-up August Hom to allow for grocery deliveries when the customer isn’t home using home-security cameras giving the option to watch the entire delivery process, if desired.
  • Sephora’s Virtual Make-Up Try-On: Sephora’s app includes Virtual Artist, allowing consumers to apply makeup with their phone and images to see what it would look like in person.
  • Amazon Prime Wardrobe: Order clothes from Amazon, try them all on and have seven days to decide, without paying a penny until you’re ready to order. The more you buy, the more you save in discounts.
  • Adidas’ 3D Printed Shoe: Sportswear giant Adidas created a shoe’s sole in 20 minutes with a 3D printer, allowing its customers to customize even the finest details of their footwear.

Let’s see what 2018 has in store for us…no pun intended!
