Rebirth Sweeps Across Boston’s Downtown Crossing

What is Downtown Crossing? In CRE terms, it is likely denoted as a submarket of downtown Boston between Boston Common and the Financial District. But to understand what it really is requires a deeper look at its remarkable transformation.

Downtown Crossing is urban revival on a grand, glorious scale. And it is blood, sweat, and furrowed brows by the urban planners, developers and city leaders who risked greatly, envisioned grandly and struggled mightily to bring back to life a bleak, five-block “ugly hole” few dared look at, much less enter.

Today, Downtown Crossing is a hot kaleidoscope mix of uses, ranging from fashionable retailers, local merchants, chef-driven restaurants and hip bars, to vibrant hotels, high-end residential developments and cool creative office redevelopments.
