NTT expanding Garland's niche in data center development

Garland to Expand Its Niche in Data Center Operations

Just last week Garland okayed the site plan for a 180,000 square foot $59 million data center to be built by Digital Realty. Meanwhile, NTT is planning a 229,500 square foot data center building within a mile of Digital Realty’s campus.

NTT aims to invest around $110 million in the project. Construction is slated to begin in November 2022 and end in January 2024. The 42-acre campus in Garland reportedly has space for up to five buildings, offering 1.5 million sq ft of space, and a total of 80MW.

There are ten data centers within a three mile radius of Garland, a Dallas suburb. NTT’s Joe Goldsmith explains, “Dallas is the No. 4 city globally for internet traffic, also there’s a large pool of very skilled labor, inexpensive and reliable power, and lots of fiber. Those are the magic ingredients for a great data center market.”
