Eddie Bauer Retail Operator Expected to Close North America Stores, File for Bankruptcy

The retail operator of Eddie Bauer, the Seattle-based outdoor clothing brand, is expected to shutter all of its stores in North America after filing for bankruptcy, including 11 locations in Washington.

There are approximately 200 Eddie Bauer stores worldwide, with about 180 in the U.S. and Canada. According to multiple media outlets citing unidentified sources, the planned closures are tied to plans for a chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Eddie Bauer has yet to comment publicly on the reports.

In January, Authentic announced that it was transitioning the licenses for Eddie Bauer’s manufacturing, e-commerce and wholesale operations in the U.S. and Canada from Catalyst to Outdoor 5. Authentic Brands Group owns the Eddie Bauer brand and IP worldwide. Founded in Seattle in 1920, Eddie Bauer grew into a global outdoorwear name and once operated hundreds of stores worldwide.
