Construction Underway to Redevelop Former Tyson Foods Building

The Chicago School’s Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM) has received pre-accreditation, paving the way for student recruitment for its inaugural Fall 2026 class. As part of a $1 billion economic initiative, IllinoisCOM will anchor a new 247,000-square-foot campus in Chicago’s West Loop.

The new medical school will host around 1,800 students, faculty, and staff. The new medical school is expected to generate $1 billion in total economic impact in Chicago over the next 12 years, contributing $83.4 million annually to the local economy, supporting 464 jobs, and generating $4.8 million in state and local tax revenue each year.

The Community Solution Education System and The Chicago School jointly acquired the West Loop office building located at 400 S. Jefferson Street and the former site of the Tyson Foods headquarters in 2024. “Chicago has long been a recognized world leader in medical education, and The Chicago School is honored to become part of this legacy,” said John Lucas, DO, founding dean and chief academic officer of IllinoisCOM. “
