Chicago School Buys Former Tyson Foods Building

The Community Solution Education System and The Chicago School have jointly acquired the West Loop office building located at 400 S. Jefferson Street.

Spanning 247,000 square feet, the facility, which is the former site of the Tyson Foods headquarters, is expected to open in 2025 and will accommodate approximately 1,800 students, faculty, and staff from both institutions. Chicago-based Sterling Bay redeveloped the Tyson Foods building in 2012 and sold the property for almost $98 million in 2013 to Cole Real Estate Investments.

It will also be home to the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, the proposed first new medical school in Chicago in over a century, which is currently seeking accreditation.

This state-of-the-art space will include lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories, and areas for collaborative learning and working. The campus is also expected to increase pedestrian traffic, enhancing business growth opportunities in the district.

“I am especially excited about plans to transform spaces for community leaders in mental and physical health and plans dedicated to addressing inequities,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “We look forward to welcoming the nearly 2,000 students, employees, and guests in the years ahead.”
