Chicago Bears CEO Says Downtown Stadium Still on the Table
In the latest development in the ongoing search for a new Chicago Bears stadium, the team’s Chief Executive Officer Kevin Warren hinted at downtown being a possibility.
In addressing the media at a recent press conference, he said “The priority is to make sure we build a world-class stadium for our fans.” Warren went on to comment on the vibrancy and appeal of the downtown Chicago lakefront.
Last year, the Bears purchased the Arlington International Racecourse property last year for $197 million with plans to build a new facility. But that development is in limbo amid property valuation issues that would affect future tax bills for the team.
Last month, reports that a new stadium might be built on a site just south of Soldier Field were met with staunch opposition from the advocacy group Friends of the Parks. For now, the Bears are continuing to explore options, but Warren’s comments signal that a downtown stadium is still in the running.
