Amazon Opts to Not Renew Downtown Seattle Office Lease

Amazon will not renew its roughly 209,000-square-foot lease in downtown Seattle’s 1800 Ninth Tower, reported the Puget Sound Business Journal. Amazon has been in the building since 2013, and the lease runs through February 2024.

Amazon has put at least 800,000 square feet of downtown Seattle office space on the market since 2020. The 1,100 Amazon employees based in the building will move to other local offices. The company shifted employees earlier this year after declining to renew its lease in downtown Seattle’s West 8th tower.

The e-commerce giant is also letting go of a 19,000-square-foot South Lake Union lease at 507 Westlake Avenue N. that is set to expire next summer. While Amazon is opting to let go of these leases, the company recently opened offices in Vulcan Real Estate’s 555 Tower and thousands of employees have moved to Bellevue in recent years.
