Amazon Investing in Grocery Business, Opening More Stores

Amazon is breathing new life into its grocery business after halting efforts earlier this year and pausing the rollout of its Amazon Fresh stores. Now, the Seattle-based e-commerce giant is gearing up to revamp its offerings both online and through brick-and-mortar stores.  

Amazon will soon expand its grocery delivery and free pickup services. Once fully launched across all Whole Foods Market locations, customers in over 3,500 U.S. cities will be able to access two-hour grocery delivery. The company has also finished the redesign of two Amazon Fresh stores in the Chicago area, complete with Krispy Kreme Doughnut shops, with plans to open more locations in Los Angeles.

Amazon Fresh locations offer an expanded selection of goods, with more than 1,500 new national and private label products. Stores also feature high-tech conveniences such as Dash Cart, a smart shopping cart. Amazon Prime members can access in-store deals and a 10 percent discount on hundreds of items.
