Sheri Thompson Helps Quadruple Walker & Dunlop’s Affordable Housing Business

Company:

Walker & Dunlop

Sheri Thompson is Walker & Dunlop’s executive vice president and head of Affordable Housing, overseeing more than 180 professionals across 20 offices and responsible for the firm’s financial performance.

She has helped quadruple the firm’s affordable housing business by integrating debt, tax credit equity, preservation, capital advisory and investment sales into a single platform. Thompson also serves on Walker & Dunlop’s Executive and Strategy committees.

Thompson encouraged collaboration across affordable housing divisions, and in 2025, the platform generated $450 million in low-income housing tax credit equity in addition to debt and investment sales activities

Thompson serves on the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s inaugural Federal Advisory Committee on Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Housing and as vice chair of the Code of Support Foundation’s board of trustees and is a founding board member of Veritas Impact Partners. She is also part of the National Multifamily Housing Council’s Workforce Housing Committee and participates in Urban Land Institute initiatives, including UrbanPlan.

She has received GlobeSt.’s Women of Influence award and Mortgage Professional America’s Elite Woman recognition.

These are just a few reasons Sheri Thompson is among the Washington DC & Mid-Atlantic Connect CRE 2026 Women in Real Estate Award winners. The award honors the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and taken on mentorship roles.
