NBA’s Dallas Mavericks Seek Zoning for Sports and Entertainment District

The Dallas Mavericks’ chose a likely place to begin the rezoning process for a sports and entertainment district, a onetime thriving mall. The team is looking at 100 acres of land that used to be the Valley View Center.

The mall was once home to Bloomingdale’s, Dillard’s and Macy’s in the 1990’s but was shuttered and then demolished in 2023.

The Dallas Business Journal reports the team says it’s looking for a vibrant mixed-use destination anchored by a state-of-the-art arena, along with restaurants, entertainment options, public green spaces and family-friendly experiences.

The Mavs have until January 2028 to close on the land. Seritage Growth Partners owns a portion of the Valley View site.

Mavericks ownership is paying $126,900 per month through January 2027, which increases to $274,950 through January 2028, for the right to buy the land. The agreement calls for Arena Development Intermediate LLC, or ADI, a Mavs subsidiary overseeing the deal, to ultimately pay around $51 million to purchase the site.
