Port of Seattle Approves $2.5B Renovation for Airport Concourse
The Port of Seattle Commission has approved initial funding for a $2.5 billion renovation of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s S Concourse, with major construction scheduled to begin in 2027 and continue through 2034.
Commissioners authorized $1.1 billion to fund the project through 2029. The commission will consider the remaining costs later. The project will modernize the S Concourse, which opened in 1973 and primarily serves international travelers.
Plans call for adding 150,000 square feet, including a new upper concourse level, more dining and retail space, additional lounges and passenger amenities, and dual-level boarding at select gates. The project will be completed in multiple phases over the course of eight years.
“The project will add critical seismic, structural, and building systems upgrades to improve long-term passenger circulation as well as operational efficiency,” said Port of Seattle Commission President Ryan Calkins. Infrastructure consulting firm AECOM was selected to lead the project.
