Northwestern’s New Ryan Field Nears Completion
Northwestern University has offered the first extended look inside the nearly completed Ryan Field, with tours of the stadium months before the Wildcats officially return home.
The transformation of the privately funded, 35,000-seat campus stadium is scheduled to open this season. The $875 million venue includes a newly installed turf playing surface, and the university says the project will deliver a world-class home for the school’s athletics programs, fans and players, as well as a year-round asset for the community.
The new Ryan Field is set to open in October, when the Northwestern Wildcats will host Penn State in the renovated stadium. Northwestern University is partnering on the project with Central Street Consortium, a joint venture between Turner Chicago and Walsh Construction, which is serving as the general contractor for the redevelopment. In 2022, Northwestern first unveiled plans to replace the current 97-year-old Ryan Field following a $480 million donation from the Patrick and Shirley Ryan family, the largest in the Evanston, Illinois, university’s history.
