Beacon Economics’ Christopher Thornberg on Challenges Facing California CRE (VIDEO)

“There’s a permanent gap between what people think is happening in the economy and what is actually happening in the economy,” said Dr. Christopher Thornberg, founding partner at Beacon Economics. “Sometimes the gap is in one direction: in 2006, people were way too optimistic. And sometimes the gap is in the other direction: I go back to the pandemic and think about how ridiculously pessimistic people were being.”

Thornberg shared this and other insights into both longstanding misperceptions of economic realities and the current outlook in a conversation with Daniel Ceniceros, CEO and founder of Connect Media, and Sarah Quinn, EVP and cofounder of Connect Media. The three held this conversation at the recent NAIOP I.CON West conference as part of the new CREative Connections podcast series co-hosted by Tim Jemal, CEO of NAIOP SoCal.

In the video below, Thornberg, Ceniceros and Quinn discuss the headwinds facing California commercial real estate, legislative issues and concerns that impact transactions.
