Amazon Closing Fresh and Go Stores to Focus on Whole Foods

Amazon announced plans to close its Fresh and Go store locations and will instead focus on its Whole Foods Market locations and grocery delivery from Amazon.com.

“After a careful evaluation of the business and how we can best serve customers, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh physical stores, converting various locations into Whole Foods Market stores,” the company wrote in a statement.

The move includes closing all 57 Amazon Fresh and 15 Amazon Go stores. The company said it plans to open more than 100 new Whole Foods locations over the next few years.

Amazon will also open five additional Whole Foods Market Daily Shop locations, a smaller store format offering a selection of grab-and-go meals, coffee, and essentials, by the end of 2026. At the same time, the company is bolstering its grocery delivery service, expanding same-day delivery to more communities over the next year.
