Flatiron Building’s Owners File Plans for Residential Conversion

A joint venture including The Brodsky Organization, The Sorgente Group and GFP Real Estate has filed plans to convert the historic Flatiron Building to 60 residential condominiums. The New York Business Journal reported that conversion of the 22-story, 122-year-old landmark, the namesake of Manhattan’s Flatiron District, is expected to be finished by 2026 if construction can commence next year.

Developers will convert 200,000 square feet of the Flatiron Building for residential use. About 5,000 square feet of space on the ground floor will be reserved for commercial tenants.

News of the conversion of the 205,000-square-foot former office building first broke last year. Flatiron’s new owners told the New York Times that condos were planned at the building. Subsequently, Connect CRE reported that The Brodsky Organization would serve as the managing partner of the joint venture and, together with its partners, will oversee the transformation of the historic building.
