WeWork to Keep Five More Chicago Locations
WeWork plans to assume a total of 89 additional leases across the U.S. and Canada. This includes eight total leases across downtown Chicago, including five newly announced leases.
The company will close one of its Fulton Market District locations at 220 N. Green Street as the co-working giant seeks to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Chicago-based startup Workbox will take over the space. IWG, another co-work company, also just announced plans to add seven flexible workspaces in the Chicago area, adding to 35 new locations the company opened in Illinois in 2023.
WeWork also previously closed Chicago locations at 332 S. Michigan Avenue and 20 W. Kinzie Street. The company has previously announced the assumption of 77 leases and, upon emergence, expects to operate more than 170 locations across the United States and Canada and 337 locations globally. According to the company, WeWork has determined a path forward at over 97% of its global portfolio and is projected to reduce total rent commitments by over $11 billion.
