Pritzker Seeks Sale of Damen Silos on Chicago’s Lower West Side

Weeks after announcing a new deal for the sale of the James R. Thompson Center in downtown Chicago, Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) have issued an Invitation for Bid (IFB) for the sale of the Damen Silos located at 2900 S. Damen Ave.

The state is establishing a minimum bid of $3.25 million to acquire the 23.4-acre property in “as-is” condition. Bids are due by Oct. 19.

Pritzker said a sale of the Damen Silos would save taxpayer dollars and “bring significant economic development to Chicago’s Lower West Side.”

The state has owned the property since 1928, when it was deeded from the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Previously used to mix construction materials for state roads, it more recently served as a backdrop for many famous movie and television scenes, including “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”
