Amazon Plans Delivery Station on Chicago’s West Side
Amazon plans to build a 140,000-square-foot delivery station in the West Side’s West Humboldt Park neighborhood, the Chicago Tribune reported. Slated to open in late 2022, the facility will add to Amazon’s already sizable footprint in the Chicago region.
The retailer paid about $35 million for the approximately 26 acres of land, the Tribune reported. The seller was Joel Fink, president and CEO of Allied Metal Co.
37th Ward Ald. Emma Mitts said in a statement that the facility would bring needed jobs to Chicago’s West Side and “inspire renewed hope to already disadvantaged neighborhoods further recently ravaged by the economic shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The site is near a $50-million redevelopment of former warehouses into creative office space by locally based developer IBT and Chicago Fire owner Joe Mansueto. The soccer franchise is seeking approval for a training facility in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side.
