Illinois Sees Unemployment Drop in All 14 Metro Areas
Illinois gained 94,700 nonfarm jobs over the 12 months ended June 30, with all 14 metro areas seeing unemployment declines, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) said. It was the biggest annual increase since July 2015, when a year-over-year gain of 105,300 was reported.
“Job growth is reaching all corners of Illinois, and this administration is acting boldly to build upon that momentum,” said Deputy Gov. Dan Hynes. “On the strength of a bipartisan budget and capital bill, Illinois is once again investing in its roads, bridges, and universities to create an economy that supports working families.”
Predictably, more than half the Y-O-Y increase was in the Chicago region, with 63,500 jobs added since June 2018. However, other metro areas saw faster Y-O-Y growth on a percentage basis.
Illinois businesses added jobs in 11 of the state’s metro areas. The largest percentage increases occurred in Carbondale-Marion, Lake-Kenosha and Peoria.
