Yellow Roof Opens Inspiring Affordable Housing Project in Pittsburg

Families at risk for homelessness in Pittsburg, Calif., have a new, hopeful option – thanks to the Yellow Roof Foundation and the city’s government.

In a ribbon-cutting ceremony (yes, a yellow ribbon), the Gonsalves Village was grandly opened in the Old Pittsburg section of town.

An example of Yellow Roof’s goals: no resident will pay more than 30 percent of their income in one of its affordable communities.

Current statistics in California show that most low-income households spend approximately 50 percent of their income on housing, creating huge burdens in the ability to afford other essential goods, such as food, transportation, utilities and insurance. Yellow Roof Foundation will ensure that no resident will pay more than 30 percent of their income in one of its affordable communities

Six families will soon move into the community, named Gonsalves Village in honor of East Bay business leader and Yellow Roof supporter Steve Gonsalves, who is also president and CEO of The Conco Companies, one of the largest providers of premium concrete services in the United States.

The mission of Yellow Roof, a 501(c)(3) public charity founded by Dave and Lori Sanson, owners of Concord-based DeNova Homes, is to assist those who are hardworking, contributing members of their community but are experiencing hard times due to circumstances beyond their control.
