WS Development, CrossHarbor Capital Acquire Storied Chicago North Shore Retail Destination Edens Plaza
Massachusetts-based, mixed-use developer WS Development, the owner and operator of more than 100 mixed-use developments nationwide, has acquired Edens Plaza, a storied shopping center in the wealthy Chicago suburb of Wilmette, IL, WS Development announced.
WS, in partnership with CrossHarbor Capital Partners, purchased the property from Newport Capital Partners, a Chicago based fund manager. Joe Girardi of Mid-America Real Estate served as the broker for the deal.
Earlier this year, Willmette announced it had succeeded in attracting successful online home and furniture retailer Wayfair to open its first, flagship physical store location at Edens.
“The executed 152,000-square-foot Wayfair lease will transform a former Carson Pirie Scott space into a first-of-its kind shopping experience where customers will be able to engage with the brands they know and love in an innovative format.” WS wrote in its release.
With support from the Village of Wilmette, WS said it will enhance what has been for decades a top North Shore retail destination by further evolving the merchandising as well as making physical improvements to the property.
“We’re thrilled to expand our growing footprint to Wilmette, IL and bring Wayfair’s vision to life as our first step in revitalizing the plaza,” said Jeremy Sclar, Founder and CEO at WS Development. “Our team is looking forward to also working closely with the Village of Wilmette to ensure the plaza remains a community-first destination for years to come.”
