World-First Shipping Container Taco Bell Debuts
The world’s first shipping container-based Taco Bell is set to open this year in SoCal. Installation of a five-module, 1,080-square-foot restaurant for the Irvine, CA-based fast-food chain was completed in a week.
The restaurant is located in South Gate, CA and is undergoing final utility work, paving and landscaping. The containers previously served as a popular pop-up Taco Bell at 2016’s SXSW in Austin.
The franchise owner is Alvarado Restaurant Group, part of Denver-based Alvarado Companies, which owns 110 other Taco Bells in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Wisconsin. New York-based SG Blocks partnered with Alvarado Construction Inc. to install the containers.
Alvarado Companies’ Jeff Geller says, “Taco Bell has a mission to be as green as possible and as a franchisee, we want to follow in its path.”
