Women in Real Estate 2018: NewQuest’s Nguyen Capitalizes on a Unique Market Niche

With 18 years experience on the leasing side to her credit, Heather Nguyen re-joined NewQuest Properties in 2013, after a year with another organization, to lead a development team. In this capacity, she has identified a unique market niche that hasn’t previously been capitalized on by Texas developer.

Recognizing the trends on the West Coast and recruiting top-tier Asian tenants to come to Texas shows outstanding initiative and strategic thought, as both a developer and broker. An example is the recently-launched second phase of Katy Grand, a mixed-use project in the Houston suburb of Katy, TX, where the tenant mix includes Japanese-based Kinokuniya, a gift boutique and book store; and 85C° Bakery Café, Taiwan’s top coffeehouse.

“We are creating a crossroads of culture for international dining and shopping experiences,” Nguyen said when phase II was announced this past January.

These are just a few of the reasons we chose Nguyen as one of the 2018 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.

As shopping patterns trend toward online services rather than in-store experiences, Nguyen has turned her focus to creating shopping and dining destinations that are internet-proof, and recruiting unique concepts that are first to market. She develops lifestyle centers and not simply shopping centers.
