Women in Real Estate 2018: MCR’s Janney Shows Leadership on a Daily Basis

As CFO of MCR, the nation’s sixth-largest hotel owner-operator, Kym Janney oversees all financial matters pertaining to MCR’s $2 billion in investments—including 107 hotels and 12,942 keys across 27 states, with over 3,000 team members. It’s a rank she achieved this past February, after less than a year with the company.

In announcing Janney’s promotion, CEO Tyler Morse told employees, “Kym embodies all nine of the values of MCR, and has a can-do attitude toward everything that she works on.”

That’s just one reason we chose Janney as one of the 2018 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.

While any CFO can crunch numbers, Janney demonstrates leadership on a daily basis. Since overseeing the 2018 closing of the $300 million MCR Hospitality Fund LP, she has helped identify smart acquisitions for the fund that will translate into large returns for investors.

Described by one member of her Dallas team as “supportive and caring—with an eye for detail,” Janney thrives on collaboration. She takes the time to explain the meaning behind her instructions and direction, sharing with junior team members the acumen she has developed over a 35-year career. Consequently, employees companywide—in both finance and unrelated functions—regularly seek Janney’s advice and opinion.
