Women in Real Estate 2018: HFF’s Sands Isn’t Afraid of Challenges

Sands was an analyst for five years before she put a business plan together, and asked to have the opportunity to start the retail investment sales platform in Chicago. Over the past five years, Sands and her team have successfully capitalized over $6.5 billion of shopping center transactions.
These are just a few of the reasons we chose Sands as one of the 2018 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
As her establishment of the Chicago office’s retail platform demonstrates, Sands isn’t afraid to take on challenges. Colleagues say she has a determined spirit and does not stop until she finally wins clients over and gains their trust.
Moreover, Sands has never let being a female hinder her in the male-dominated industry of real estate. She shows up to the boardroom table as an equal, and expects to be treated as one. It’s an example she passes along to younger analysts and junior producers—both male and female—whom she regularly mentors.
