Women in Real Estate 2018: CIBC’s Case is a Leader in the Lending Market

Karen Case became president, U.S. commercial real estate at CIBC Bank USA in 2017, following Toronto-based CIBC’s US$5-billion takeover of PrivateBancorp., her employer since 2007. Case’s team had CRE loans with an outstanding balance of nearly US$11 billion as of the third quarter of this year.

A veteran of nearly four decades in commercial banking, Case previously was EVP of commercial real estate at LaSalle Bank. Prior to that, she established the Midwest real estate lending operations of New York-based Marine Midland Bank.

Her extensive track record is just one of the reasons we chose Case as one of the 2018 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.

“As a borrower, I appreciate her market insights and understanding of trends,” says a client. “She is willing to share those with you, and sometimes you may not get the answer you want, but you know that it’s not a group-think response but one that has been vetted with others.”

Outside of banking, Case is committed to giving back to the community. Along with membership in the Urban Land Institute and Economic Club of Chicago, she is a former president of the Girl Scouts of Chicago, and is extensively involved with JRDF International, for which she’s a board member and chancellor.
