Women in Real Estate 2020: Mapletree’s Sara Queen Oversees Growth in the U.S.
Since joining Mapletree two years ago as the head of operations and asset management, Sara Queen has overseen the firm’s significant growth in the U.S., with assets under management increasing from $4 billion to nearly $10 billion. Queen has also been responsible for building out the U.S. team, growing it from approximately 20 people to 75, of which 50% are women and/or people of color – an impressive accomplishment in this industry.
Since the beginning of 2020, Sara has closed nearly $1 billion of transactions, and is expected to close an additional $750 million before year’s end.
These are just some of the reasons we chose Queen as one of the 2020 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
Queen has spearheaded employee engagement during the pandemic, teaching Lunch and Learns on Real Estate basics, holding regular happy hours to discuss personal and professional topics, and touching in with staff. She also coordinated Mapletree’s donation of 250,000 medical masks to hospitals in New York City and Los Angeles.
Queen has been recognized for numerous contributions to the industry, including being named to Crain’s New York Business’ prestigious 40 under 40 list and the WX Woman of the Year for 2017. Columbia’s Master of Real Estate Development students also know her as Professor Queen, as she teaches classes on commercial leasing and asset management.
