Women in Real Estate 2020: Watt Companies’ Nadine Watt is a Standout CEO

Nadine Watt serves as CEO of Santa Monica-based Watt Companies. She stands out as one of the nation’s few women Chief Executives of large commercial real estate company. Watt has made a commitment to ensuring her team, especially at the executive level, is equally represented by women. In fact, the majority of her executive leadership team are women.

That strategy is not an abstract goal or HR policy, for Watt it is an action-backed effort to change the male-dominated nature of the real estate industry once and for all, starting within her own doors. Watt has also been tireless in her commitment to mentor young women and help cultivate a desire to enter the commercial real estate profession, which she believes is the key to equal representation in the long-term.

Watt is also views her company as a vessel in which to do good. She is often heard telling her team that one of the company’s primary values is “doing well by doing good.” This is particularly true as it relates to housing the underserved in Los Angeles. At Watt Companies, Watt is following in her grandfather’s footsteps, who started the firm with the goal of building low-cost, high-quality housing for WWII vets. Under her leadership, Watt Companies has built workforce housing in urban infill communities across the Western U.S.

These are just a few of the reasons we chose Watt as one of the 2020 Women in Real Estate Award winners in California. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
