Women in Real Estate 2020: Berkadia’s Monica Newman Has Amassed Impressive Track Record

Monica Newman is a Managing Director in Denver with Berkadia, where she serves in the HUD/FHA financing sector for multifamily, senior housing and healthcare. She is primarily responsible for the origination of FHA-insured construction and permanent loans for developers and owners of market-rate and affordable multifamily, senior housing and healthcare properties.

She also formed a start-up HUD/FHA lending division for AmeriSphere Mortgage Financing in 2006 which was later purchased by NorthMarq in 2015. She has been in the commercial mortgage banking industry for more than 30 years and brings extensive experience in the HUD/FHA financing sector.

Newman’s diverse career path has allowed her to work in nearly every function of the HUD/FHA real estate business, but also on the conventional side. She has worked and managed underwriting, work-out underwriting, asset management, construction management, construction work-out underwriting, loan origination, closing, securitization, and management of each of these disciplines as well as management of a real estate platform and FHA/HUD real estate lending company. All of which gives her a deep understanding of each of these aspects of the business. As a result, she is able to provide a more well-rounded approach to business, as well as the practitioners of each discipline.

Among the notable projects in Newman’s career are workouts of construction projects. She helped find new investors, new funds, change the construction plan, negotiate the terms with the bulk of all parties and successfully get the project new financing and completed. Her track record is impressive both in terms of success and longevity.

These are just a few of the reasons we chose Newman as one of the 2020 Women in Real Estate Award winners in Phoenix. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
