Women in Real Estate 2019: Alston & Bird’s Rosemarie Thurston is Innovative Leader

Thurston’s experience advising public and private real estate firms on complex securities matters, including leading more than $50 billion of capital-raising transactions, makes her a true player in the space. She identifies emerging industry trends in a changing landscape and helps her clients navigate them.
Thurston’s REIT Team is one of the most active in the nation in registrations of securities offerings with the SEC. She regularly advises and represents public REITs involving almost every asset class, including office, industrial, retail, multifamily, hospitality, medical, timber, data centers and mortgage and specialty finance.
These are just a few of the reasons we chose Thurston as one of the 2019 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
Thurston was instrumental in obtaining the regulatory approval from the Internal Revenue Service required to allow REITs to offer multiple share classes, which has now become the industry standard.
She also spearheaded the development of the perpetual-life, Net Asset Value REIT (NAV REIT) – an open-ended real estate fund marketed to individual investors – a product that is now viewed as “best of class” for its investor-friendly features.
