Women in Real Estate 2019: RiverRock’s Peggy Sanchez Paces Sector Via Sustainability Leadership

Peggy Sanchez serves as Director of Property Management for RiverRock Real Estate Group in Newport Beach, CA. The commercial real estate veteran demonstrates leadership in all she does, making a difference where she works, within the industry at large, with the next generation of CRE professionals and through her commitment to supporting CASA.

Sanchez brings 35 years of diversified and innovative commercial property management experience to the RiverRock team. She spearheads the firm’s Rock U educational and training programs, providing valuable information on trends and issues affecting the commercial real estate industry. She is a resource to all managers, and offers training to help develop their skills as a property manager.

Sanchez has also been recognized for her dedicated countless hours to her profession through leadership and educational roles with Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), which includes meeting with members of Congress on Capitol Hill to inform lawmakers about the commercial real estate industry and issues faced in this industry.

These are just a few of the reasons we chose Sanchez as one of the 2019 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.

Sanchez also is an influencer for her company and industry through mentorship and commitment to building RiverRock’s sustainability platform to the benefit of clients. Sanchez leads the company’s growing sustainability commitment, working closely with service partners to implement energy efficiency and sustainable building operations.

She provided education and guidelines on how to help reduce water usage in the early stages of California’s water shortages. That included the introduction of kits on water reduction initiatives, which included tips on how to reduce watering schedules at properties, checking plumbing fixtures to ensure there were no leaks or water dripping from the fixtures, replacing landscape with drought tolerant plants and continually providing advice or water district incentive programs for ways to reduce water usage. With simple no-cost or low-cost initiatives that she recommended, nearly 40,000 gallons of water was saved annually at just one property managed by RiverRock.

Sanchez also developed the “Captain of the Ship,” a Property Management 101 educational program to help train and educate managers at RiverRock on how to become exceptional property managers and leaders in this profession.

Sanchez has served on the BOMA Board of Directors since 1990. She served as president of BOMA in 1993, 1999, 2000, and 2009. Since 2009, Peggy has been an instructor for BOMA, teaching “The Foundations of Real Estate.” She has received eight BOMA TOBY Awards for excellence in building management on a local, regional and international level along with the BOMA 360 Performance Excellence and Energy star awards.

Her volunteer efforts encompass packing food for the needy at Second Harvest food bank, helping collect diapers for HomeAid’s Diaper Drive at Angel Stadium, clothes drives for Working Wardrobes and Goodwill Industries, and working with the Parks Department on the Newport Beach Back Bay respiration project preplacing native plants and restoring eroded areas of the bay. Sanchez’ long time commitment and volunteerism has been to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Orange County since 1990.
