Women in Real Estate 2019: The Lease is Just the Beginning for SNH’s Jennifer Francis

A 30-year veteran of asset management and leasing, Jennifer Francis was promoted in 2018 to president and COO of Senior Housing Properties Trust (SNH), a Newton, MA-based REIT with approximately $8.6 billion in assets.

In addition, she’s an SVP of the RMR Group, responsible for a team of more than 40 professionals which sets and implements strategic direction for the managed properties in the portfolios owned by SNH, Office Properties Income Trust, Industrial Logistics Properties Trust and Hospitality Properties Trust. Combined, the REITs’ portfolio consists of 696 properties, totaling more than 87 million square feet as of June 30.

These are just a couple of the reasons we chose Francis as one of the 2019 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.

Francis is a dealmaker with a long-term view. She understands that, in leasing transactions, the lease negotiation is just the beginning of a long relationship. Francis has often stated to her team and other colleagues that the tenant renewal process begins during the initial lease negotiation and tenant improvement process.

Francis believes that the strength of a team is stronger than the sum of the work of the individuals on the team, and tries to instill the “team” mentality to those around her. Individually, she believes the success of the people that work for her is also her success.
