Women in Real Estate 2019: Bernkopf Goodman’s Lydia Chesnick Sees the Big Picture

Many of Chesnick’s real estate clients are multi-generational Boston CRE development and management companies who have been loyal clients for decades. On occasion, family dynamics between the owners can complicate deals. Chesnick manages each family member and identifies how to best use each member as a resource while minimizing tensions, a key reason that many of her clients have stayed with her for generations.
These are just some of the reasons we chose Chesnick as one of the 2019 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
Recently, the Wall Street Journal published an article focusing on the rising number of women directors on REIT boards. In response, Chesnick wrote and published an open letter to all women working in commercial real estate. The letter struck a responsive chord among readers, not only garnering 6,000 views on the WSJ website, but also being shared, liked and tweeted hundreds of times by women and men in CRE and outside of it.
