AHWFB building $78M ambulatory care center in Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem Hospital Gets State Approval for Addition

Atrium Hospital Winston Salem Baptist (AHWFB) has begun site preparation work for an ambulatory surgery center – a project that has received the green light from the state last month.

The total investment should reach $78.4 million. The project proposes construction of a new, 72,300-square-foot building with eight operating rooms, one of which will be relocated from an existing medical center, as well as two procedure rooms, one robotic surgery training center and one simulation operating room.

With an expected opening by July 2025, the facility – to be known as Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Outpatient Surgery-Cloverdale – will offer otolaryngology, orthopaedics, urology, generally surgery and plastic surgery.

AHWFB projects that the surgery center will serve about 8,300 patients annually in the operating rooms and about 1,100 annually in the procedure rooms. AHWFB also projects a need of 99 full-time or full-time equivalent employees.
