Willis Tower Scores LEED Gold on Eve of Chicago Greenbuild

On the eve of this week’s U.S. Green Building Council’s annual Greenbuild conference, occurring this year at McCormick Place, EQ Office’s Willis Tower has been awarded the USGBC’s LEED Gold certification. Chicago’s tallest tower will also host the 2018 USGBC Leadership Awards reception on Wednesday.

“Willis Tower is a major destination in the heart of Chicago, and for more than 15,000 people, it’s also their workplace,” said EQ Office’s David Moore. “As we redevelop this iconic Tower, we’re making a conscious effort to find ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce our environmental footprint. Earning the LEED Gold certification is a credit to our entire team for their hard work.”

In the course of a $500-million-plus renovation on the property, Willis Tower worked with Rivion, a Wisconsin-based energy consulting firm, to plan and implement energy-saving initiatives. These included installation of high-efficiency lighting systems and improvements to the building’s HVAC.
