Williams Buys 64-Story Houston Office Tower
The Williams Companies, a midstream energy giant based in Omaha, finally bought the tower with its name on it. The Williams Companies acquired the 64-story, 1.4 million-square-foot tower at 2800 Post Oak Blvd. just south of The Galleria mall for $300 million.
The Houston Business Journal reports that Williams’ involvement with its namesake tower began in 1995, when it acquired Transco Energy Co., then the building’s named anchor tenant, in a $3 billion deal. The building’s name was officially changed to Williams Tower in 1999.
Invesco was the seller and was advised by Eastdil Secured in the transaction.
Williams does not intend to relocate its Tulsa headquarters to the glass-encased tower. The company also plans to invest in the building and the surrounding property to add new amenities for its employees and other tenants in the building. Currently, Williams Tower is about 83% leased.
Williams Tower was developed by Hines and was completed in 1983.
