Will and Kankakee Counties Re-enter Phase 4 of IL Reopening Program

The Pritzker administration on Friday announced a mix of progress and backsliding on statewide mitigation efforts to contain the coronavirus. Two Chicagoland counties, Will and Kankakee, were given the go-ahead to return to Phase 4 of the state’s phased reopening plan, after additional mitigations were imposed following three consecutive days of a rolling positivity rate above 8%.

“Moving from a greater than 8% rolling positivity rate to below 6.5% in a matter of weeks demonstrates how concerted efforts to reduce exposure risks through limiting large gatherings, increased masking and other mitigation measures can truly make a difference,” Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) director Ngozi Ezike.

Conversely, IDPH announced that 24 counties west and south of Chicagoland, including the Metro East region near St. Louis, had reached warning level for COVID-19. A county enters a warning level when two or more out of eight COVID-19 risk indicators increase.
