White Lodging Tops Out 613-Key Austin Marriott Downtown — With Bourbon

White Lodging topped off the 613-room Austin Marriott Downtown. The developer partnered with Garrison Brothers Distillery to hoist three bourbon barrels to the hotel’s rooftop. The barrels will remain in place until the hotel opens in 2020; at that time, the hotel’s first guests will participate in a whiskey tasting.

David Meisner, general manager of the Austin Marriott Downtown, said the hotel is the first Marriott-branded convention facility to open in the metro since 2005. “The hotel . . . reinforce(s) and support(s) the city’s attractiveness and growing demand for large meetings and conventions, as well as a strong tourism and business travel demand,” he said.

The hotel will have a rooftop pool and bar and two ground-level restaurants. Also on hand will be more than 60,000 square feet of meeting space, featuring an exhibit space with floor-to-ceiling windows. The downtown hotel is across the street from the Austin Convention Center.
