What’s Attracting People to Downtown Los Angeles?
The Downtown Center Business Improvement District’s (DCBID) biennial Downtown Los Angeles Survey revealed the market’s appeal is stronger than ever. With a residential population that has grown 30% since 2015 to nearly 65,000, median income, professional accomplishment and educational attainment have maintained the impressive levels seen in previous surveys.
DCBID’s Carol Schatz says, “The survey shows DTLA continuing to draw a population of residents and workers that are highly attractive to investors, businesses, and retailers – it’s their talent pool and customer base – and our vibrant community.”
Interestingly, the survey shows that DTLA residents trend younger and are more likely to work in the creative industries, while the established workforce population tends to be slightly older and more likely to be employed in finance, insurance, and real estate. But, individuals who both live and work in DTLA skew the youngest, have the highest income, and are most likely to be self-employed or an entrepreneur/business owner.
