What Civic Center Will Look Like in 2032, Maybe
IBI Group’s latest urban planning vision of what Los Angeles’ Civic Center will look in the future is coming into clearer focus. The architecture and engineering firm shared how to shape a plan that includes as much as 2.2 million square feet of office space surrounding City Hall.
In the latest axis concept, City Hall serves as a center point from which new pedestrian corridors radiate out toward Little Tokyo, Chinatown, the Arts District and other DTLA communities. Some existing Civic Center landmarks will be redeveloped, and new street-level uses will help activate and attract pedestrian traffic.
The Civic Center offices are envisioned to primarily house government users, though the plan also includes options for private development. Full build-out is expected by 2032.
