When WeWork Won’t Work, There’s Mod

By: Daniella Soloway

Randy Stowell and his brother Brian have launched Mod, a co-working company that caters to mid-career professionals. While WeWork targets a mostly tech-focused generation of workers, Mod is serving slightly older workers that don’t necessarily fit in with WeWork’s super hip culture.

After testing in Phoenix, Mod recently opened its newest location in San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood. At Mod, everything in the office is for sale, and the office is filled with design-forward furniture, on-site concierge, guided meditation, and custom-created healthy snacks.

Randy Stowell previously started Bot & Dolly, a company that rigged industrial machines with cameras for the entertainment industry, which was purchased by Google. Brian Stowell left his law practice to be a real estate developer, which is when he realized he wanted an office that followed his moves. Cue the concept of Mod.
