WeWork Looks to Expand Puget Sound Footprint

WeWork plans to open a new location in Bellevue later this year. The co-working space operator is in negotiations to open a fourth location in the Eastside city, which would be its 21st in the Seattle region and 25th in the Pacific Northwest.

The enterprise division continues to report demand from companies, a sector that was also driving growth prior to the COVID-19 lockdowns. One of WeWork’s largest customers before the pandemic hit was Amazon, which had claimed about 500,000 square feet of WeWork’s 1.7-million-square-foot Seattle region portfolio.

WeWork’s Robin Cardoso told the Puget Sound Business Journal, there was a “a slight downturn in some of our usage” in the Northwest, but the enterprise division is seeing a surge. “That demand is leading to us to being able to fully transact, and we’re still doing deals and continuing to open new locations,” added Cardoso, who noted more than 70% of WeWork’s business in the Pacific Northwest is enterprise customers.
