WeWork Lands at TMG’s Historic Breuner Building in Oakland

TMG Partners leased roughly 68,000 square feet of office space at 2201 Broadway in Oakland to WeWork. The global co-working behemoth will occupy three floors of the 8-story, 200,000-square-foot historic building in two phases, one commencing immediately and another in January 2020.

TMG Partners’ David Cropper says, “The iconic Art Deco-designed Breuner Building, now fully restored and renovated, is a very attractive draw for tenants such as WeWork who want an environment that combines true architectural authenticity with modern design and technology.”

Extensive renovations were made to the 1931-era building, including a façade upgrade, blade signage, fully reimagined lobby and common area, amenity upgrades, new roof, and a complete HVAC, elevator and fire life safety modernization. Large floor plates and high ceilings appeal to creative, tech and start-ups, as does a location near BART, Lake Merritt and restaurants and entertainment venues.

Savills Studley’s Steve Barker advised the tenant. Cushman and Wakefield’s John Dolby and Dane Hooks represented the landlord.
