Westfield’s Historic Horton Plaza Park Set to Open After $17M Renovation

Westfield’s Horton Plaza Park, in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, is set to open this week after undergoing a $17 million facelift and expansion. The 146-year-old destination has long been the town’s gathering center, and holds a rich history that includes anti-war demonstrations and being a place where former Presidents have spoken.

The expansion includes a 37,000 square foot addition to the 20,000 square foot park, which replaced Westfield’s Robinson’s May, that was demolished in 2012.  In the northwest pavilion, a Starbucks Coffee and Sloan’s ice cream shop will occupy the space. The southeast pavilion has not yet solidified a tenant. Additionally, the plaza will have public restrooms, for the first time since the early 1980s. 

Westfield has agreed to schedule 200 events in the park annually, lease the pavilions to food vendors, and be responsible for maintenance.
