Westfield Carlsbad Getting Sold

Westfield Carlsbad mall is reportedly being sold to rival shopping center owner Rouse Properties. Financial terms of the deal weren’t immediately available.

Westfield Carlsbad was formerly known as Westfield Plaza Camino Real.

The 46-year-old mall underwent a $300-million overhaul in 2013. That makeover led to the addition of a 24 Hour Fitness, as well as a new 12-screen Regal cinema, among other additions. A second phase of renovations was reportedly on track for next year.

Sydney, Australia-based Westfield currently owns seven San Diego County malls. Rouse Properties, headquartered in New York, owns 35 malls in 21 states, including one in Chula Vista.
