West Texas Collection to Get a New Home
The Dr. Ralph R. Chase West Texas Collection at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX, will have a new home. Specifically, the Texas Tech University Board of Regents (of which ASU is a part), approved construction of a new museum at a recent meeting. That approval paves the way for construction of a 31,000-square-foot facility at 1825 S. Johnson St., in the middle of the ASU campus.
The West Texas Collection presents collections and information focused on West Texas’ history, including families, businesses and organizations and interests in the Concho Valley area. The museum’s current location at ASU’s Houston Harte University Center offers approximately 15,000 volumes in the reading room, manuscript and document collections and photographs and negatives.
The new museum will be built at an estimated $14.2 million price tag. A groundbreaking date has not yet been decided, with the next step focused on awarding a design contract.
