West Side Warehouses to Be Redeveloped into Urban Workspace
City officials came together earlier this week for a formal ribbon-cutting of The Terminal. As part of the Lightfoot administration’s INVEST South/West program, the century-old property in the West Side’s West Humboldt Park neighborhood will be transformed into an urban workspace campus for makers, creatives and innovators, designed to fit in with the existing character of the neighborhood.
Comprised of three warehouses, The Terminal was originally occupied by the Pyle-National Company, which manufactured lighting for both railroad and building exterior use. Project developer IBT Group, LLC, plans a buildout of the 250,000-square-foot space, expected to cost over $50 million. Mansueto Office is providing some of the funding.
“The transformation of this empty vintage property into a state-of-the-art, open space work environment is certain to inspire creativity and innovation on the West Side,” said Andrea L. Zopp, president and CEO, World Business Chicago.
