Welcoming Entry Planned for Midtown Building
The new plaza in front of 1345 Avenue of the Americas (1345 Sixth Ave.) is being updated to offer generous amounts of public seating, where passersby can stop, admire the new fountain designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, or look northwards towards Central Park, a few blocks away.
New Yorkers don’t take a nice place to sit down for granted — many Midtown property owners purposely avoid benches. “We are completely enlivening and reinvigorating the property’s outdoor spaces, and creating a more welcoming, dynamic entry into the building,” said Ken Fisher, partner with Fisher Brothers, which built the property.
The tower is also getting new building systems, plus a lobby with higher ceilings, a light sculpture and mirror-back glass walls. The update is part of Fisher Brothers’ $130 million plan to spruce up its New York portfolio.
